Come visit the six theme
sections:
Annie's Annuals The
Annie's Annuals Garden contains both annuals and perennials, all supplied by
local grower Annie Hayes. She specializes in plants suitable for our area;
these include rare and unusual plants, heirloom plants, California natives and
those especially suited for cottage gardens.
Asian The Asian Garden
features plants and design ideas with an oriental influence. Textures and
colors are supplied largely by shrub and tree foliage, and some oriental
hardscaping is featured as well, including a columnar fountain.
Cottage The Cottage
Garden is modeled after the English cottage garden but using plants that thrive
in Santa Cruz County. Riotous bloom and intermingling of shapes, textures and
colors are on display here, showcasing plants that peak at each season of the
year. Both this area and the Bedding Garden include plants that attract
hummingbirds and butterflies. Potted plants, a stone bench and a fountain add
to the ambiance.
Bedding The Bedding
Garden changes constantly, as annuals and a few long blooming perennials are
displayed at their peak in a country garden setting. The colors in a mosaic
birdbath reflect the many hues of the flowers surrounding it.
Shade The Shade
Garden, under a canopied gazebo, showcases plants that thrive in shade or
partial shade. Rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and other shrubs, along with
many perennials, surround a small stone patio with tiny table and chairs; a
statue of St Francis guards it all.
Herb The Herb Garden
is a more formal space, with a round Italian fountain and concrete pavers
surrounded by edible, fragrant and medicinal herbs. A wooden gated arbor is
covered with hop vine and lablab bean, and three fruit trees are already
producing fruit.
Trees provide vertical accents
throughout the entire garden and provide spring and fall color. Arbors covered
with climbing roses and other vines mark the entrances and many flowering
plants cascade over the retaining wall along River Street. A graveled path
meanders through the six gardens, weaving them together in a coherent pattern.
Come wander through, enjoy the flowers and get ideas for your own personal
outdoor spaces: this space was designed to be shared with all who love to
garden. |
